For me, the on-set of Fibromyalgia Syndrome was sudden. One day I was fine and the next day I ached all over. I assumed I had the flu.

Fibromyalgia Exercise
Fibromyalgia exercise is important for your over all well being. And, believe it or not, it is one of the best fibromyalgia treatments for the reduction of pain. If you do not exercise, several things will occur.
- Your muscles will begin to deteriorate.
- You will begin feeling weaker.
- Your endorphin production will diminish.
- You will feel stiffer in the morning.
- You may find your fibromyalgia tender points will increase in pain.
Strenuous exercise is not recommended. Strenuous exercise can actually aggravate fibromyalgia symptoms. However, light to moderate exercise is highly recommended.
I began my exercise program by getting up in the morning and stretching. I was stiff as a cobb but stretching loosened my muscles enough that the fibromyalgia morning stiffness went away quickly.
I then began a walking program. I started with a 15 minute walk around my neighborhood. I didn't try and run a marathon, but I walked slowly at first.
My goal was not to get my heart rate up but only to get my muscles moving. After a few weeks, I was able to increase my speed a bit and soon I was able to walk further.
Pool exercising is one of the best exercise for fibromyalgia. There is little or no resistance. I found I could move freely and for a longer period of time. The warm water felt wonderful on my aching muscles and fibromyalgia tender points.
Exercise machines are nice to have. When the weather is poor, I can still continue my exercise program. I can set the speed and resistance to my own ability. I highly recommend it.
Finding a fibromyalgia exercise program that works for you is important. Exercise moderately and see how you feel. All in all, know that fibromyalgia exercise is important.

Fibromyalgia Flare Up – Managing Fibromyalgia Tender Points Pain
Fibromyalgia tender points pain can be managed. Getting a Fibromyalgia flare up now and again is natural. However, there are successful ways of managing those flare ups, thus reducing fibromyalgia pain.
Fibromyalgia symptoms vary with each individual. Keeping a detailed record of your habits and life style will help you understand what causes your particular flare up. Keeping a detailed record in a notebook will be helpful.
Carefully watch what triggers flare ups such as:
Daily work and Social Habits
Food
Sleep Routine
Exercise
Stress level
Medications
Activities
Most of the time a fibromyalgia flare up will not occur immediately and not all activities or food will cause a flare up. When you get a flare up, assess the occurrence or foods you have eaten in the last day or two.
Not every food or activity will produce an instant flare up. Most of the time, your fibromyalgia symptoms will not show up for a day or two. When a fibromyalgia flare up occurs, think back and evaluate which activity, food, or occurrence may have caused your set back.
If at all possible, avoid repeating the a activity or eating the food as much as possible. You may not always be able to avoid the fibromyalgia trigger point, such as stress at work and may have to go for a strategy to help you cope with it better.
If over-exertion triggers the fibromyalgia symptoms, then pace your activity over an extended period of time. If stress in the work place triggers the pain in those fibromyalgia tender points, then find ways to reduce the stress. Be open with your employer about you limitations.
You can manage your fibromyalgia pain by keeping a list of what triggers a fibromyalgia flare up. It may take a few months, but it well worth the effort.

The Fibromyalgia signs are complex. If you have just one Fibromyalgia symptom, it does not confirm that you suffer from Fibromyalgia Syndrome. A better indication that you have the condition is if you experience more than one symptom or the over lapping of numerous symptoms. Fibromyalgia Symptoms seem to have no boundaries.

Fibromyalgia Tender Points
There are 18 localized painful spots on the body that are called tender points. When pressure is apply to these spots, mild to severe pain may be felt. All spots do not have the same degree of pain. If 11 of these fibromyalgia tender points produce pain in some degree, the chance of being troubled by Fibromyalgia is great.
Wide Spread Pain
Pain is not confined to the tender points. Often there is widespread pain that resembles flu like symptoms. Many have described this fibromyalgia symptom as a general over-all ache. Sometimes there may be shooting or burning pains in the muscles that are not related to the tender points.
Chronic Fatigue
Fibromyalgia chronic fatigue is an intense form of fatigue. Those who suffer from this Fibromyalgia symptom describe the fatigue as one of the most incapacitating. They feel as tired in the morning as they did when they went to bed. Their bodies feel so drained of energy and everything they do is an effort. The fatigue may last for only a few days or it can last for months.
Morning Stiffness
Many patients suffer with the most pain in the morning along with morning stiffness. The temptation to remain in bed is great but unwise. The morning stiffness decreased if you get up and move. Moderate morning exercise can be helpful. The pain often subsides as you get up move about.
Fibro Brain Fog or Fibrofog
Fibro Brain Fog or Fibrofog is just a nice way of saying, “I can’t remember a darn thing.” It also can last a few days or a few months. A person with Fibrofog feels like there is a fog or haze around their brain and they have difficulty concentrating or retaining new information.
Other fibro brain fog symptoms may include: short term memory loss, difficulty remembering plans, transposing letters and numbers, and difficulty finding just the right word in a conversation. This fibromyalgia symptom has been especially bothersome to me.
Sleep Problems
Falling asleep and staying a sleep is a problem for those with fibromyalgia. Not being able to say asleep long enough to reach a deep sleep can leave one exhausted in the morning... which also leads to day time fatigue. This problem does not seem to be identified with a specific sleep-disorder but it seems to be a common fibromyalgia symptom.
Depression or Excessive Anxiety
Depression and Anxiety are among the fibro symptoms many complain about. It’s one of the those confusing symptoms. Is one depressed because they have fibro or does fibromyalgia increase the probability of depression and anxiety? Anyway, it’s on the standard fibromyalgia symptom checklist as being a common trait.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be painful but it does not damage the colon or other parts of the digestive system. Fibromyalgia seems to aggravate the digestive system and one can suffer with cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea and/ or constipation. It's another one of those fibromyalgia signs that seem quite common.
Other Symptoms
Fibromyalgia signs can go on and on but the above fibromyalgia symptom checklist include the common symptoms for the syndrome. Strangely, symptoms of fibromyalgia vary from person to person. While one person may experience many of the common symptoms, others will experience only a few of the standard indicators and many of the uncommon Fibromyalgia signs.
However, the one fibromalgia symptom that remains a constant are the fibromyalgia tender points. It seems to be the first fibromyalgia sign to appear.

Fibromyalgia Causes – Understanding Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia causes remains a mystery to the medical community. Understanding Fibromyalgia is complex. Even the experts don’t agree on why Fibromyalgia Syndrome occurs or what causes it.
It is not considered a disease, but a syndrome: “A condition characterized by a set of associated symptoms.” All I know is that the “set of associated symptoms” can be mighty painful and inconvenient, especially fibromyalgia tender points.
The bottom line is, all fibromyalgia causes are not known. All that fibromyalgia research will acknowledged is, it seems to be triggered or made worse by a number of factors. Understanding fibromyalgia can help you determine the best fibromyalgia treatments.
Suggested Fibromyalgia Causes or Triggers include:
- Virus or Infectious Illness
- Lack of Sleep or Sleep Disturbances
- Food Allergies or Food Sensitivity
- Hormonal Problems
- Accident or Trauma

Virus Or Infectious Illness
The virus that causes mononucleosis or the Epstein-Barr are suspicious triggers of Chronic Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Common viruses may also be a culprit of the syndrome.

When we don’t get enough sleep, it doesn’t give the body enough time to repair injured muscles and nerves.

Frankly, I think getting up with a new baby several times night for months or laying awake and worrying about finances, or stewing about a teenager who is late coming in from a date and is driving your new car is enough to trigger a host of other things besides Fibromyalgia. Food Allergies or Food Sensitivity
Along with general food allergies, fibromyalgia research also suggest that Intestinal Candida overgrowth or the fungus associated with Candida may be a guilty Fibromyalgia trigger point.
My grand kids think that a food sensitivity means... anything they don’t like.
Hormonal Problems
Women are also 10 times more likely to suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms than men. When there is a severe fluctuation in hormone levels, it can create an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone. This imbalance may trigger the symptoms of Fibromyalgia Syndrome .
An Accident or Trauma
Sources of emotional or physical trauma my come from unexpected accidents, falls, surgery, a sudden death of some one close, a breakup of a relationship, or the discovery of a life-threatening condition. I’m sure there are many other traumas that can be named. There is no doubt, trauma can a fibromyagia cause.
Emotional Stress
Stress is a response to events that make your feel threatened or upset life’s balance in some way. Long term stressful circumstances suppress the immune system which may contribute to Chronic Fibromyalgia Syndrome.
Along with trauma, financial stress, work stress, and the just stress of keeping up with a family may be enough to spark chronic Fibromyalgia, it just depends upon the individual.
Fibromyalgia Theory
No one theory supports enough evidence to make any one suspicious fibromyalgia cause as the root of the syndrome. The medical community may never determine all fibromyalgia causes but and I don’t suggest spending a lot of time trying to figure it out.
Understanding fibromyalgia will aid in finding fibromyalgia treatments that works for you to alleviate or eliminate the discomfort, especially the pain in the fibromyalgia tender points.

Fibromyalgia Definition – Fibromyalgia Tender Points
Learning the Fibromyalgia Definition will help you understand why the Fibromyalgia Tender Points are so painful. The Fibromyalgia definition is: A chronic condition that produces intense pain in the muscles and fibrous tissues.
- Chronic means: An illness that persists for a long time or constantly reoccurs and is difficult to eradicate.
- Syndrome means: A complex condition that causes many symptoms in the body to occur all at once.
- The term, Fibromyalgia, comes from “fibro” which are the fibrous tissues of the tendons and ligaments. “My” are the muscles and “algia” means pain. In other words, is a condition that produces pain in the muscles and fibrous tissues.
My onset of Fibromyalgia or Fibro Myalgia suddenly occurred about 33 years ago, when I was pregnant. When it was first suspected that I had Fibromyalgia, it was difficult to define the condition in a way my friends could understand.
At the time, fibromyalgia information was limited and doctors didn’t recognized fibromyalgia symptoms. In fact, most doctors were unaware there was such a condition or problem and patients were often considered “off the wall” or just “habitual complainers.”
Fibromyalgia awareness was not taken seriously until the late eighties when fibromyalgia research took an upswing. The fibromyalgia definition and fibromyalgia information then became more accessible to doctors and the general public. At the present time, there are over 6 million people in the United States alone that suffer with Fibromyalgia Syndrome
Fibromyalgia Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, (another name for the condition,) is not considered a disease. The fact that so many fibro symptoms can occur at the same time make it a unique disorder.
I call Fibromyalgia a “Personal Syndrome” because it manifests itself so differently in each individual person. The intense pain in several of the fibromyalgia tenderpoints were the most bothersome for me.
Just as there are many suspicious causes, there are as many different overlapping fibromyalgia symptoms. Successful fibromyalgia treatments also vary with each individual.
Fibromyalgia symptoms wax and wane. One may go for months without any fibro symptoms. On the other hand, one may suffer pain for many weeks or months. No one understands exactly why the symptoms come and go as they do.

Fibromyalgia Tender Points – A Confirmed Fibromyalgia Symptom
Fibromyalgia Tender Points, a clear Fibromyalgia Symptom, seems to be the only uniform indicator in the effort to diagnosis Fibromyalgia. There are many symptoms, but fibromyalgia tender points are the only confirmed symptom. There are 18 tender points or Fibromyalgia trigger points on the body that are highly sensitive to pressure. Sometimes even the slightest pressure feels like sharp knives.

At the present time, these 18 Fibromyalgia Tender Points are checked first to help diagnosis Fibromyalgia. If 11 of the tender points create pain when pressure is applied, then it meets the criteria to be considered Fibromyalgia by the American College of Rheumatology and the National Fibromyalgia Association. Recent fibromyalgia research suggest there can be as many as 75 other tender points.
How Large Is A Fibromalgia Tender Point?
The sites of fibro pain are usually very small. They can vary from the size of a penny to the size of quarter. Some fibromyalgia tender point sites may be more painful than other tender points on the body. Applying pressure to the tender points with a finger can cause mild pain or may actually cause the individual to flinch or pull back. I’ve been know to yelp!
Along with the Fibromyalgia tender points, if other symptoms are apparent, the chances of having Chronic Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fibromyalgia Fatigue Syndrome are pretty substantial.
Where Are The Fibromyalgia Trigger Points
The are 8 fibromyalgia tender points on the front of the body. They are located on lower neck, on the chest, arms and knees. The 10 points on the back of the body are on the lower neck, upper back, below the waist near the hips and on the upper legs. For some reason, I have several other tender points that are not on the standard fibromyalgia tender point list. I understand that this phenomenon is not uncommon. And, for some reason, these seem to be the most painful for me.
How Important Are The Fibromyalgia Tender Points When Diagnosing Fibromyalgia Syndrome?
There is no absolute fibromyalgia test. Since there are no blood or fluid tests to determine if you have Fibromyalgia Syndrome, applying pressure to the tender points will probably be your doctors first assessment. You will need to tell him exactly the intensity of the pain when pressure is applied.
You will need to tell your doctor if you are suffering from any other fibromyalgia signs, such as over all muscle pain, skin sensitivity, sleep problems, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue or any other discomfort you are experiencing. You will want to received the best treatment of fibromyalgia experts can offer.
I’ve had all many these fibro symptoms by varying degrees at one time or another. The important thing to remember is that you will have two or more of these fibromyalgia signs at the same time.... the main fibromyalgia symptom being Fibromyalgia Tender Points or trigger points. If all of the symptoms remain for a period of three months or more, it’s a pretty safe bet you have Fibromyalgia.
